Course summary

The University offers excellent facilities for research, teaching and professional practice for MPhil and PhD research in Media and Cultural Studies. There is a strong interdisciplinary research culture, offering quantitative, ethnographic and textual research methodologies and a growing practice- based research environment.

Assessment method

For an MPhil the students are required to demonstrate that they can conduct an original investigation, test ideas (those of their own and others) and understand the relationship between the topic investigated and the wider field of knowledge. For a PhD, in addition to the above, the student's thesis should also make an original contribution to knowledge or understanding in their field of study.


Entry requirements

A relevant undergraduate degree 1st or 2.1 and strong academic references.
