Course summary
A University of Hertfordshire research degree is an internationally recognised degree signifying high levels of achievement in research. It develops extensive subject expertise and independent research skills which are honed over an extended period, depending on the level of the award. You undertake an original research project for the duration of the degree, under the supervision and guidance of two or more academic members of staff. You are also supported by attendance at the University's Generic Training courses. During the course of the degree, you are given opportunities to present your work at major conferences.
Assessment method
The degree is assessed on the final research output, in the form of a written thesis of up to 25,000 words, which is defended in a viva with an external examiner.
Entry requirements
Normally, we require applicants for MA by Research study to be in possession of a good honours degree (2:1 or above) in a relevant discipline. IELTS entry requirement is normally 6.5 or equivalent for overseas students.
