Course summary

Diabetes is a growing worldwide epidemic. Consequently, emphasis is placed on tackling this disease through all members of the multidisciplinary team. The online MSc Diabetes course provides a progression route for the Postgraduate Diploma in Diabetes. This clinically-focussed diabetes course is designed to equip professionals with the knowledge and skills to deliver a first rate diabetes service. The curriculum is based on the International Curriculum for Diabetes Health Professional Education produced by the International Diabetes Federation and therefore meets the highest international standards for diabetes education.

Modules

MSc: One-year duration Students progressing from the PG Diploma Diabetes course do the one-year MSc consisting of the following modules: •Research Methodologies and Critical Appraisal Optional modules •Professional Project •Independent Prescribing Module (taught at University) MSc: Two-year duration Students who decide to enrol directly on to the MSc (rather than the PG Dip) will do the two-year version, which consists of the following modules: •Principles of Diabetes •Approaches to Care •Promoting Self Care •Management of Diabetes •Complications (1) •Complications (2) •Research Methodologies and Critical Appraisal Optional modules •Professional Project •Independent Prescribing Module (taught at University)

Assessment method

You will be assessed online, apart from those undertaking the Independent Prescribing module. Assessments comprise of case-based examinations, reflective portfolio, forum discussions and group activities.


Entry requirements

1st degree or equivalent (including international qualifications); health-related background; APL may be negotiated on an individual basis.
