Life as a foundation year student During a foundation year you’ll learn about your chosen subject, develop your study skills and get used to university life. On successful completion of your foundation year, you’ll be ready to progress to the first year of your degree course. As a foundation year student, you’ll be a full student of the University and part of our community. You’ll have access to all our campus facilities and support. What you will study On our LLB Law course, you’ll gain a deep understanding of the main areas of legal knowledge, including law as it regulates the functions of the state (public law and criminal law), law as it regulates relations between private individuals (contract law and tort law), and law as it regulates the ownership and control of land and other property (land law, and equity and trusts). In addition to these core subjects, after the first year you will have the option to study a range of topics with experts in their fields, from Environmental Law to International Humanitarian Law to Medical Law to Tax Law, among many others. You will learn how to debate the law, to analyse its application to given situations and to apply your legal understanding in a national or international context. Further opportunities to develop your professional skills are provided through a series of extracurricular activities focusing on client interviewing, negotiation and mooting.
