Explore cutting-edge research techniques and advanced mathematical methods. On this integrated Masters degree, you'll learn to model, analyse and solve real-world problems in business and industry. You’ll develop advanced analytical and quantitative skills, and study topics such as optimisation and modelling. Southampton is one of the few places in the UK to offer this MMORSE degree. Southampton is ranked in the world's top 40 and 7th in the UK for Statistics and Operational Research (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022). This 4-year Mathematics, Operational Research, Statistics and Economics (MORSE) is a broad, business-oriented integrated Masters. The course is similar to the BSc MORSE for the first 3 years, then introduces more challenging concepts such as game theory, data mining and survival analysis. This course will develop your abilities in: Problem-solving - Logical argument - Deductive reasoning - Abstraction - Generalisation It is ideal for students pursuing a career as a: Mathematician - Operational researcher - Statistician - Economist You’ll also have the flexibility to specialise in an area of your choice for your research project. As part of this course you can:

  • Discover a range of mathematical techniques, such as graphical networks, cost models, decision processes and statistical modelling
  • Solve real-world problems using mathematics and other skills
  • Use our student centre, a dedicated learning and social space, exclusively for maths students
  • Explore mathematical and computational packages such as Python and the statistics package 'R'
We'll teach you through a combination of lectures and workshops. Our staff are leading researchers in fields like game theory, healthcare modelling and experiment design. Southampton mathematics graduates are in great demand. Many employers look for graduates with strong problem-solving skills who can develop sound analytical arguments. Depending on your degree specialism, a wide range of career destinations are available including mathematician, statistician, actuary and financial analyst. Qualification requirements

We welcome applicants with other qualifications eg. European Baccalaureate. You will be expected to attain an equivalent standard to the A level applicant. As A level Mathematics is required for this programme, all equivalent qualifications also need an equivalent of A level Mathematics, grade A.
