Course summary

Are you interested in studying on a modern and highly relevant degree? Learning to recognise, apply and adapt chemical concepts to the real-world on a societal and global scale? Chemistry at Northumbria will give you a thorough foundation in core chemistry, together with a range of options including nanotechnology, green technologies, drug chemistry, and computer-aided molecular design. A final year research project will cement your learning, giving you the knowledge, independent critical-thinking and problem-solving skills needed to become a well-rounded chemist in this fast-paced industry, or continue on into academia. Learning from research active staff at the forefront of the subject, you will gain hands-on practical experience in our state-of-the-art laboratories that offer an authentic learning experience. Accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry, and with the opportunity to take a year in industry, Chemistry will give you the professional, transferrable and research skills to prepare you for a career in research, teaching or industry.

Assessment method

Your tutors will use a variety of teaching methods, which may include lectures, seminars, problem-based workshops, case discussions, practical activities, group work and tutorials. Teaching is backed up by a well-designed support system that will underpin your learning journey. You will have access to a Guidance Tutor with whom you can discuss any academic issues. Extensive feedback from both tutors and peers is built into the course.
