Course summary
Our course is geared to take you closer to your career goals. Its relevance is grounded in learning from research-active staff, with guest lectures from practicing clinical psychology lecturers. If you’re looking to pursue a career as a qualified psychologist, or in related mental health areas, our course gives you the preparation for further clinical psychology training. You’ll learn to assess and understand the complex issues many people living with mental health problems suffer from, examining ways to help manage these and find appropriate treatment. You’ll graduate with both the theoretical knowledge and practical tools to work within mental health services and clinical psychology, as well as be equipped with the skills to apply scientific and research methods.
Modules
Core modules: Issues in scientific research; adult psychopathology (assessment and diagnosis); quantitative research methods; clinical formulation and treatment; masters project.
Assessment method
You’ll have the opportunity to demonstrate your skills and knowledge through a range of methods including essays, exams, portfolios, presentations, debates, data analysis and a dissertation.
Entry requirements
•A 2.1 Undergraduate degree in Psychology or other closely related discipline, or equivalent. An interview is required for students with a Graduate Basis for Recognition (GBR) 2.2 undergraduate degree in Psychology. Where there is no clear equivalence, decisions will be made by the admissions staff. •If English is not your first language you will be expected to demonstrate a certificated level of proficiency of at least IELTS 7.0 ( Academic level), or equivalent English Language qualification, as recognised by Anglia Ruskin University. Notes • The study of Psychology at degree level requires the understanding and application of scientific methodology throughout the course and so applicants who can demonstrate an aptitude for logical thinking, an interest in scientific methodology and a reasonable level of numeracy will be preferred.
