Course summary

This course has been written in collaboration with a team of experienced staff including fashion, textiles, photography, illustration, graphics and business lecturers. Its aim is to allow students to gain valuable skills, knowledge and experience to maximize your career opportunities in the fashion and textiles industry. The one year top up course includes the study of innovative textiles incorporating creative design solutions and promotional techniques. Gaining an in-depth knowledge of market trends, you will exercise your judgment in the analysis of research strategies and methodologies. Enrichment studies offer further promotion skills including advanced photographic and staging elements. Engaging an independent way of working, this course offers the chance to determine a self-critical awareness fostering further development for personal motivation. Throughout the course, you will have the opportunity to engage in national and global competitions and showcase events offering you the chance to build industry contacts and work experience opportunities. In addition, you will be taught how to run your own business giving you valuable expertise in business forecasting, marketing and promotion. Teaching and learning on the course will be delivered through a range of lectures, practical workshops, research seminars, group work, analysis of live fashion events and textile craft fairs. Guest speakers from different areas of the fashion and textiles industry will facilitate professional workshops and Q&A sessions. Undergraduates will be involved in local, national and global showcasing events, competitions and freelance work.

Assessment method

Research, mood boards, creative journals, essays, presentations, sketchbooks, reflective evaluations, proposals, pitches, presentations, critiques, supporting documentation and/or Evaluation, practical work including samples, demonstrations and interviews.

Qualification requirements

Applicants will need to evidence the following: • Foundation Degree in Fashion and Textiles OR • Foundation Degree in another art related subject AND • A successful interview UK Applicants: At the interview they will be required to present a portfolio of work that displays their skills to their best advantage. European Applicants: European applicants may not be able to attend an interview in the UK. Once the application has been processed, they should submit an e-portfolio, CD or DVD of their recent work; this will be followed by a telephone interview. UK and EU Entry: Equivalent international qualifications will be considered towards meeting the general entry requirements.

Interview

Interview: All applicants are invited to attend an interview with either the Course Leader or Course Tutor. You will be notified of your interview by our Admissions Team who will also update UCAS Track with details of your application.

Additional Selection Criteria: Meeting the minimum entry requirement for a course does not necessarily guarantee a place. Entry to all courses is subject to a successful interview. When assessing an application, we take into account your grades, predicted grades, reference and personal statement. From your personal statement and interview, we consider your motivation and commitment to success, and any relevant experience you may have. For some courses, we may also ask for a portfolio of appropriate work or an audition, or you may be required to find a work placement prior to enrolment. Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check: To gain access to some courses you may need to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. If you have criminal convictions or cautions, please do not be put off from applying for the course. Your acceptance on to the course will depend on the nature of any convictions and will be at the discretion of the University Centre and your placement provider. English language requirements

EU students, for whom English is not the first language, will be required to evidence an IELTS score or 6.0 or equivalent. Equivalences include: • TOEFL written examination score of 550 plus a test of written English (at 4) • TOEFL Computer Equivalent score of 230 • Proficiency in English (Cambridge) at Grade C or above
