Course summary
Electrical and electronic engineers design, develop, test and oversee new technologies. This can be to generate and process power as well as create of anything from drones and electric cars to the technology in smartphones, sat navs and systems in hospitals. Our accredited course is structured to ensure that you will be an industry-ready graduate in both of these fields. You'll be equipped with practical, professional and transferable skills that give you a competitive edge when it comes to securing jobs and placements. Our internationally recognised research has attracted industrial collaboration and you will be taught by people at the cutting-edge of these technologies. Our course offers the opportunity to undertake a one-year paid industrial placement and/or study abroad. This course is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology under licence from the UK regulator, the Engineering Council. Accreditation is a mark of assurance that the degree meets the standards set by the Engineering Council in the UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK-SPEC). An accredited degree will provide you with some or all of the underpinning knowledge, understanding and skills for eventual registration as an Incorporated (IEng) or Chartered Engineer (CEng).
Modules
All our electrical and electronic courses have the same content in year one and two so by year three, you can choose the topics that interest you. In your second year, you will continue to improve your understanding of electronic engineering, and your design skills will be developed through a variety of laboratory-based subjects. In your third year, you can choose from a range of specialist topics to follow a wide path, or focus on specific technologies. Through lectures, group study and tutorials combined with coursework and self-study, you may spend over 40 hours a week on your studies.
