Course summary
This degree focuses on how language works, how it is structured and what it does, from the physical properties of speech, to how languages change and develop over time. You learn about the growth and development of language in the brain as well as methodologies for the scientific study of the human language faculty. In addition, you study a modern language from a choice of French, German, Portuguese, Spanish, Chinese or Japanese.

As the course contains a combination of scientific thinking, language skills, and mathematical reasoning, it may be especially suited to the personality of students who have enjoyed both mathematics/science and arts/humanities subjects.
