Course summary

This qualification is designed to provide students with a range of opportunities to develop skills in the varied Business and Management sector. The Foundation Degree with Optional Integrated Foundation Entry is designed for those who want to study for the foundation degree but don’t have the necessary formal qualifications to start just yet. The foundation degree has been designed to develop knowledge and understanding of a range of business disciplines and line management to marketing, accounting and business practice. It will focus on developing the undergraduate’s core study skills, general business knowledge and problem solving abilities. In addition, there will be emphasis on improving mathematical and literacy skills, for progression into employment or on to further study. It is expected that throughout the course undergraduates will have the opportunity to visit local businesses to enhance their understanding and perception of their studies. Visiting academics and employers will also be invited to ‘guest lecture’ further enriching experience of the course. Teaching and learning on the course will be delivered through a range of lectures, practical workshops, research seminars, group work, project work and guest speakers. Guest speakers from different areas of business will conduct workshops and Q&A sessions. Students will be involved in research activities.

Entry requirements

Qualification requirements

For students entering via the optional Foundation Entry route, the following admission criteria will apply: - The entry requirements for Foundation Year entry is 180 points at A2 level or equivalent. Other acceptable qualifications include: Advanced VCE Scottish Certificate of Education Higher Grade Irish Leaving Certificate Higher Grade International Baccalaureate BTEC National Certificate/Diploma For students entering directly onto the Foundation Degree, the following admission criteria will apply: - Students should be at least 18 years of age. Entry requirements for a Foundation Degree in Business and Management are a minimum of 200 points at A2 (or equivalent) plus GCSE Maths and English at Grade C or above. Applications from individuals with non-standard qualifications, relevant work or life experience and who can demonstrate the ability to cope with and benefit from Foundation Degree level studies are welcome. For students who have not studied recently there may be a requirement to undertake an Access Programme.

From your personal statement and interview, we consider your motivation and commitment to success, and any relevant experience you may have. For some courses, we may also ask for a portfolio of appropriate work or an audition, or you may be required to find a work placement prior to enrolment. Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check: To gain access to some courses you may need to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. If you have criminal convictions or cautions, please do not be put off from applying for the course. Your acceptance on to the course will depend on the nature of any convictions and will be at the discretion of the University Centre and your placement provider. Interview: All applicants are invited to attend an interview with either the Course Leader or Course Tutor. You will be notified of your interview by our Admissions Team who will also update UCAS Track with details of your application.


English language requirements

EU students, for whom English is not the first language, will be required to evidence an IELTS score or 6.0 or equivalent. Equivalences include: • TOEFL written examination score of 550 plus a test of written English (at 4) • TOEFL Computer Equivalent score of 230 • Proficiency in English (Cambridge) at Grade C or above
