About this Course: This one year course is aimed at those who are not currently working within a teaching environment. It will help you to develop your teaching skills, reflect on current ideas about education and training, and to creatively explore the professional opportunities open to you. Validated by the University of Huddersfield, a high percentage of the course is focused on practical teaching. You will gain experience of learning and teaching alongside other teachers, with support from your tutors. We have an experienced teaching team with a good reputation for ensuring you receive a quality teaching and learning experience. You will also receive support from our learning-centred staff in relation to academic and research skills, and have access to current software and a range of ICT resources. As the course is validated by the University of Huddersfield, all processes, from admissions through to assessment, are regularly reviewed to ensure that there is compliance with the University’s academic regulations, equivalence in academic standards, appropriate staffing and resources are maintained and that there is a provision of a good quality Higher Education experience for all students on the programme. This programme is designed as a pre-service training for those who are not currently working within a teaching environment. Modules Covered:

  • Research Informed Teaching, Learning and Assessment
  • Becoming a Subject Specialist Tutor
  • Being a Subject Specialist Tutor
  • Policy and Professional Issues
Plus, a completion of a Practical Teaching File, demonstrating evidence of teaching skills development. Using a variety of methods including observations, assignments, presentations and a portfolio of evidence. Progression: Upon successful completion of this course you could go into employment as a College Lecturer or Teacher, Curriculum Team Leader, a Teacher in Uniformed Services or in learning and development. You could also be a teacher with adult and community learning as well as charitable organisations. Entry Requirements: No prior teaching experience is needed. The course is particularly suitable if you have work experience in industry, business and administration, hair and beauty, social work, health service, uniformed services or armed forces. You must: • Have a HNC, CGLI Advanced, NVQ Level 3/4 or recognised professional qualification • Be able to demonstrate appropriate work experience in the area you wish to teach • Be prepared to undertake a placement to gain a minimum of 100 hours teaching experience • Provide an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and health clearances • Hold qualifications at Level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy (e.g. GCSE, Functional Skills) • Be able to communicate in standard spoken and written English In addition, you must also: • Complete a satisfactory interview • Provide two satisfactory references If you do not meet these requirements please contact us as we are able to consider applicants with other qualifications, relevant experience or personal circumstances on an individual basis.
