95% of our research overall in Mathematical Sciences was assessed to be world leading or internationally excellent (REF 2021) 1st in the UK for Citations in Physical Sciences (The Times Higher Education World University Rankings by Subject 2023) About the course Do you want to learn how to use mathematics to solve real-world data-intensive problems? On this course, you’ll explore the relationships between mathematics, data science and statistics. You’ll:

  • gain a thorough grounding in theories and techniques – from the foundations to the forefront of research
  • use industry-standard software such as MATLAB, Python and R
  • develop your analytical and modelling skills.
You’ll benefit from the expertise of our faculty. Our research is making a world-changing impact in areas ranging from smart materials and predicting floods, to the behaviour of queues, social networks and infectious disease control. Our computer scientists lead national and international research projects on machine learning, natural language processing and artificial intelligence. An academic adviser will guide you throughout your degree. You’ll have opportunities to engage with potential employers. Alongside your data analysis skills, this will help you gain the confidence needed for your chosen career. When you graduate, you’ll be prepared for a wide range of careers including:

  • data analyst
  • software engineer
  • data scientist
  • game designer.
During your integrated Masters year, you’ll develop new skills and apply them to an advanced research project.
