Are you ready to take the first step towards a future in education? The FdA Education course covers how people learn and develop throughout their lives – enabling you to make a difference to learners of all ages. Taught at NTU in Mansfield, you’ll get to grips with a range of social, cultural, and political aspects of education. You’ll explore the meaning of education, who it’s for and whether it’s socially just. With a focus on real-world learning, you’ll also consider education in its broadest sense at local, national and international level. Whether you plan to go straight into the world of work on completing your foundation degree, or this is your stepping stone to further study, you’ll gain the knowledge and transferable skills you need to progress in a diverse range of careers in education. What you'll study In year one, the course provides a solid grounding for understanding the multi and interdisciplinary nature of education. Multidisciplinary in the way that it draws from sociology, psychology, philosophy and politics, and interdisciplinary in the way that it includes specialised educational fields of study. In year two, the course will cement your theoretical knowledge as you think about how your own research could contribute to the field of education.

Modules

In year one, the course provides a solid grounding for understanding the multi and interdisciplinary nature of education. Multidisciplinary in the way that it draws from Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy and Politics, and interdisciplinary in the way that it includes specialised educational fields of study. In year two, the course will cement your theoretical knowledge as you think about how your own research could contribute to the field of education. You will undertake a placement in both years of the course, and spend approximately 300 hours in total across the course on placement. In year one there are six modules each worth 20 credits Academic Skills Key Questions in Education Introduction to Teaching Learning Places Contemporary Issues Educational Contexts In year two there are modules each worth 20 credits and optional modules worth 40 Credits Optional: Professional Practice placement (40 credits) Optional: Teaching Practice placement (40 credits) Education Policy Researching Learning Special Educational Needs Educator Identity
