Course summary

Pharmaceutical scientists play a vital role in the development of new medicines, from discovery chemistry, through to formulation development, manufacture and clinical testing, and post marketing pharmacovigilance. We have developed our Pharmaceutical Science programme in collaboration with a range of local and national companies. As a direct result we have significantly increased the laboratory hours offered to our undergraduates. Our connections with these major pharmaceutical companies ensure this course is relevant and continues to meet the needs of today's graduates. In addition, these links will provide you with unique opportunities to gain valuable experience during your placement year and utilise the knowledge of the best visiting lecturers from the pharmaceutical industry. The range of modules we offer allows you to understand the fundamental underpinning sciences of chemistry, biochemistry, biology, and pharmacology before building specialist knowledge in drug design, formulation development and clinical testing, whilst equipping you with the essential skills employers want to see in their graduate employees. Our links with major pharmaceutical companies ensure this course is up to date and meeting the needs of today's graduates.

Modules

You will develop your capacity for independent study and interpersonal skills on this programme. There is an emphasis on structured research, well-prepared written and verbal presentations and computer literacy. You will experience a wide variety of teaching styles on the programme including: standard lectures, seminars, tutorials, laboratories, case studies, individual and group projects In your final year you will normally have the opportunity to hone your independent study and interpersonal skills by undertaking a major project or dissertation.
