Course summary

The Department has particular strengths in biological chemistry and organic synthesis, computational and theoretical chemistry, materials chemistry (inorganic and polymer), magnetic resonance and structural chemistry, radiochemistry and environmental chemistry, nanoscience, biochemistry, bioinformatics, biotechnology, genetics, gene expression, molecular biology, microbiology, structural biology, neuroscience, pharmacology, toxicology and biomolecular sciences. State-of-the-art equipment, new laboratories and first-rate spectroscopic services support and compliment these activities. Each student has at least one supervisor and an advisor with pastoral responsibility. In addition to superb research facilities, postgraduates in the Department have a graduate common room and use of a computer cluster. You receive training in health and safety, fire fighting, library skills and written and oral presentation skills.


How to apply

International applicants

This course has a subject classification which requires students whose nationality is outside the European Economic Area (EEA) or Switzerland to have an ATAS certificate, irrespective of country of residence at the point of application.

Entry requirements

We normally expect students to have a First or Upper Second class UK honours degree or international equivalent, in a relevant science or engineering discipline or a first degree with an additional UK Masters degree (or international equivalent).
