Course summary

As one of the longest established Occupational Therapy Schools in the UK, we have a very highly regarded professional reputation. The course will be delivered by our teaching staff and a range of external speakers, bringing their own experience and current research to your learning. This course will equip you with the professional thinking to advance your occupational therapy practice by embedding occupation, critical use of evidence, research and leadership skills. Course content is designed to help you shape contemporary and emerging communities of practice for the profession of occupational therapy. The award recognises the value of lifelong learning as a cornerstone of excellence in service delivery and is underpinned by the Royal College of Occupational Therapy career development framework. The award structure ensures that the modules are both contemporary for current service needs and innovative promoting engagement with emerging communities of practice underpinned throughout using high-quality evidence base.

• OTHM003 Occupation for Occupational Therapists (compulsory) • OTHM022 Embedding Evidence to Enhance Practice (compulsory) • OTHM023 Contemporary Communities of Practice (compulsory) • OTHM009 Implementing Innovative Change in Practice (compulsory) • OTHM108 Leading People in Health and Social Care Organisations (Designated) • NURM106 Research Methods (compulsory) • OTHM010 Research Methods (compulsory) • NURM106 Educating and Influencing Others in Health Care (Designated) • NURM3068 Leading Change in Healthcare Practice (Designated) MSc Advanced Occupational Therapy: To be eligible for the award of MSc Advanced Occupational Therapy, the student must successfully complete all compulsory modules, and up to 20 credits of designated modules. Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Occupational Therapy: To be eligible for the award of Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Occupational Therapy, the student must successfully complete 120 credits from the list above. Postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Occupational Therapy: To be eligible for the award of Postgraduate Certificate in Advanced Occupational Therapy, the student must successfully complete OTHM009, OTHM003 and OTHM022. **Module information is quoted for 2021/22 entry. Please note that modules run subject to student numbers and staff availability, any changes will be communicated to applicants accordingly.


Entry requirements

Hold a recognised First or Second-Class Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy in order to be eligible to apply for this MSc. If you have relevant professional and educational experience this will also be taken into consideration. If English is not your first language you will need to demonstrate that you meet the minimum English language requirement to reflect the professional requirement of the HCPC standards from 2018/19 new entry: Minimum standard – IELTS 6.5 (or equivalent) for study at postgraduate level.
