Course summary

Computing is an integral part of our lives, both at home and in business. This programme enables you to gain knowledge and understanding of real-world computing developments, and will help you to develop the necessary practical skills through work-related learning. You will focus on networking and security, systems design and development, programming, web services, database development, project management, problem solving and professional skills. Throughout the course you will also be encouraged to develop your employability skills. You will replicate real-world practices by using specialised industry-standard tools and completing an industry-related project. Successful completion of this programme provides entry to the BSc (Hons) Computing (Top-up) so that you complete a full honours degree.

Modules

Modules offered may vary. Year 1 modules include: Introduction to Web Development Agile Project Management Database Design and Development Networking Fundamentals Programming Fundamentals Work Environment and Reflective Practice Year 2 modules include: Networking and Cyber Security Client-Server Scripting Object Oriented Programming Connected System Development Emerging Technology Project

Assessment method

You will be assessed through a variety of summative assessments that may be in the form of, but not limited to, report writing, practical work, examinations, case studies, presentations, research and project work.

Qualified teacher status (QTS)

To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:
