Course summary

This course will equip graduates with the skills and knowledge to make an effective contribution to the equine industry. You will be equipped with the skills and knowledge to successfully establish and run a range of equine businesses both in the UK and further afield. You will develop the knowledge and skills to enable you to continue learning at postgraduate level, or to transfer skills and knowledge into a different future career path. Graduates will manage the overall care of horses in a range of equine disciplines and settings such as nutritional advisors, yard managers, stud yards, the racing industry, welfare and animal/equine behaviour. This course aims to provide learners with a solid and broad foundation in equine science-based subjects. This foundation will be combined with equine business management subjects to provide you with a range of expertise. The course is offered at SRUC Oatridge campus, home to the Scottish Equestrian Centre (SNEC).

Assessment method

Modules are assessed separately using a combination of coursework and written examinations. Coursework assessments are very varied and might include for example practical investigations, case studies, essays, reports, oral presentations and groupwork assignments

Applications can be considered for entry to Year 2 or 3 from applicants who have successfully completed a relevant HNC/ HND course. Please contact the Admissions Team to discuss further.

Applicants will be asked to provide recorded evidence of horse riding ability (including ability to walk, trot, canter and jump)


English language requirements

Applicants whose native language is not English and who have not been educated previously in the English language must provide evidence of their English language ability to ensure they can cope with the demands of a course taught and assessed in English. Further information about the English Language tests that we currently accept as proof of English Language ability can be viewed on our website. English language tests should be no more than two years old on the start date of your chosen course.
