Course summary

This MSc gives you a comprehensive insight into the concept of MI (minimally invasive) dentistry. You’ll focus on major dental issues that arise across all age groups, learn how to adopt a minimally invasive approach to treatment and give your patients a sophisticated, holistic level of care.

If you’re a dental graduate or practitioner who’s interested in exploring the latest scientific developments in MI treatment and learning techniques that we use in our world-class research, then this programme is for you. This MSc will develop your knowledge of the principles underlying the mechanical, physical and chemical properties of dental materials used in MI, giving you all-round expertise in this innovative field. Modules focus on different audiences, including children and older people, so that you can employ approaches that will effectively encourage oral hygiene in your clinical population. You’ll also learn a range of prevention and control management strategies, allowing you to see improvements in your patients dental health, without the pitfalls of more invasive treatments. You’ll have the advantage of hands-on experience, using MI techniques in our patient clinics. You’ll also attend Community Dental Services during your Older Population and Dental Care with MI Approaches module. The course provides modules on skills such as public speaking and positive psychology techniques that will boost your clinical effectiveness. All of the topics you cover will be examined in relation to risk assessment, case management and treatment planning, so you can readily apply your knowledge to your own clinical setting.

Entry requirements

Degree requirements Applicants must have a primary qualification in Dentistry (BDS or equivalent). Additional information If English is not your first language, please note that in order for your application to be considered you must have obtained a minimum IELTS score of 6.5 or recognised equivalent qualification at the point of submission of your application.
