The MFA Creative Practice is a two year full time programme. It shares the first year taught programme with the MA. An extended independent project forms the second year, providing time for in-depth research and realisation of a substantial body of work. Important Application Information Whilst UCAS Conservatoires indicates that the deadline is 31st January, please note we are able to accept applications after this date. Please submit via UCAS Conservatoires in the usual way.
During the application and audition process, you must select which instrument(s) you wish to specialise in for the duration of your course. On this course, you can choose from the following options:
Only one specialism is studied. It may be possible to study a further instrument, but this will not contribute towards the qualification.
For all courses, you must select at least one specialism from the 'primary' list. For those studying primary/secondary pathways, two instruments may be selected – one from the 'primary' list and one from the 'secondary' list. Joint pathway students may select any two instruments from either list.
*If you are an international applicant, or you are applying for a postgraduate course, or are choosing certain assessment locations, the 'on time' deadline may be later in the year - please contact the conservatoire directly.

Applicants are expected to have an appropriate first degree (or an equivalent qualification) or 5 years’ professional experience in a relevant discipline. Applicants without formal qualification are subject to the Institution’s Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) process.
In the event of a successful assessment, applicants may be invited for a further interview prior to being made an offer.
Remote assessment recordings may be accepted in the event that you cannot attend an assessment in person.

Applicants will also be required to submit an initial project proposal, outlining the following: *The reasons they wish to carry out an independent project over one academic year *Their suitability for extended independent research in the context of an MFA Creative Practice *The nature of their intended research and a draft projected timeline with indicated outputs of research (which is understandably subject to change) *An interview (phone/Skype interview is acceptable) will also be required.
