Course summary

This unique vocational programme is for anyone wanting to work as a dance practitioner in community and participatory settings. It supports your learning as a dance leader and facilitator with practical knowledge and skills and an understanding of dance as a socially relevant, creative, applied and inclusive practice. Opportunities to assist professionals in the field and learn from experienced tutors and professional community artists, supports your learning and understanding as a practitioner. Study accumulates in a self-selected area or research into practice where you can develop individual areas or interest and experience, leading to a MFA qualification. The programme has four key strands: •Dance leadership and teaching - develop knowledge and skills for working effectively to engage and support different types of groups, populations and communities through dance •Understanding community dance - explore the values and principles of community dance, how it happens and its impact on individuals and communities. Learn about planning and delivering projects and the networks and agencies that support community dance provision •Artistic development - progress your creative dance skills and artistic practice in a world-class conservatoire with first-class teacher and facilities •Professional practice - encounters with practicing artists and their work, supported by our partnerships with some of the UK's leading and professional organisations, facilitates your understanding of how the profession operates, as well as providing valuable contacts and work experience.

Principal study options

During the application and audition process, you must select which instrument(s) you wish to specialise in for the duration of your course. On this course, you can choose from the following options:

Main specialism

Only one specialism is studied. It may be possible to study a further instrument, but this will not contribute towards the qualification.

Instrument/specialisms

For all courses, you must select at least one specialism from the 'primary' list. For those studying primary/secondary pathways, two instruments may be selected – one from the 'primary' list and one from the 'secondary' list. Joint pathway students may select any two instruments from either list.

Entry requirements

Undergraduate degree and IELTS with a minimum of 6.5 in all four areas for those for whom English is not the first language.
