Course summary
This course is an opportunity to conduct in-depth research on a topic of choice from the field of modern literary studies, relative to an area of staff expertise.
Modules
Modules include: Researching literature; options: romanticism; 19th-century literature; 20th-century and contemporary literature; women’s writing of the 19th and 20th centuries; feminist theory; Welsh women’s writing; Welsh writing in English; gothic studies; science and literature; literature of travel; religious poetry.
Assessment method
Assessment is based on 3 separate pieces of coursework totalling approximately 5,000 words; the dissertation should be 25,000-30,000 words in length.
Entry requirements
A good Honours degree in English or English related subjects (2.1 or above); non-standard qualifications and experiential learning are also be taken into account; applicants for whom English is not their 1st language are required to have an IELTS score of 8.0; all applicants for research degrees must submit an application form accompanied by a research proposal.
