A specialism in marketing will open many doors for you in your career, as it is an integral activity for most organisations. The course will provide you with the opportunity to develop marketing and business skills, and key transferable skills, all of which will help you stand out when it comes to securing employment. In addition, you will gain an insight into digital business, exploring how technology has remodelled the business world, and reflect on the accompanying issues around social responsibility and ethical behaviour. BA (Hons) Business Management with Marketing will equip you with a solid grounding in business functions with the communicative, administrative and creative skills needed to make an impact in the marketing industry. Business Management with Marketing students will be equipped with the skills, knowledge and understanding to pursue a career in a variety of different marketing roles, exploring and examining the digital marketing realm whilst underpinning their skills with theory to enable them to develop these skills in a practical manner, and be able to work effectively in a marketing business environment. Students will study common modules on this pathway and specialised marketing modules. Personal development and self-management is a common thread throughout the programme in order to allow students to develop in confidence and capability, leaving with a range of transferable skills to a core array of business sectors such as private, public sectors and other such business related professions like accountancy, personnel, consultancy, business start-up, marketing and administration. It recognises the global scope of business, and the programme incorporates an international focus. This is embedded throughout the curriculum, giving you the opportunity to transform your experience with us into a global one. Our Business team have a range of experiences within industry and our module offering is shaped to address perceived gaps in the business industry, meaning you will graduate with in-demand skills. Business weaves itself through the fabric of society; however, arguably, business has a unique element, and this is due to how every sector and every industry is a business. The degree captures what is rich about life and provides all students with an underpinning knowledge. Students develop confidence in being able to perform simple tasks such as being able to talk to a bank manager, deal with a customer in a supermarket or motivate themselves to engage with the world of work, whilst refining more sophisticated skills in dealing with more complex problem solving. Students increasingly engage and develop capacities in the ways of thinking and practising of management, including interaction with industry, finance and the graduate labour market, whilst students on this particular degree are able to grasp holistically the place of business and the role of themselves within the business world.

Assessment method

The assessment approach through its design ensures the student’s breadth and depth of knowledge, aid and enhance understanding of the subject of Business and Management. The assessment methods combine traditional and innovative formats and the assessment scheme will incorporate opportunities for formative assessment and feedback to ensure students are able to achieve module outcomes effectively. At level 4, students will begin to develop the skills of producing reports, delivering presentations and other forms of communication, not only of content relevance but also with professional competency in terms of how they structured for the reader. Methods will include presentations, written essays and reports and exams. Students will expand upon this at level 5 and 6 graduating with the capability in the field of producing work of a professional and managerial standard, innovative assessment methods allowing students to demonstrate their progress and abilities in these areas and be open to new formats in an ever changing and a learning business environment. In general over the course of the programme methods will include presentations, written essays, reports, academic posters, digital infographic, exams and the creation of a digital platform.

Students are also required to hold English and Maths GCSE (or equivalent) grade C/grade 4 or above. In line with the widening participation brief, the Institute encourages applications from students who lack formal academic qualifications.
