Course summary

Studying Sociology and Social Policy prepares you to think and bring about positive change. Sociology examines the causes and impact of social problems, while Social Policy provides the insight to better address society’s needs and rights. You’ll be taught by academics with expertise in areas like identities (race, democracy, nation), social issues (housing, inequality), crime and justice, media, political action and technology. On this degree in Sociology and Social Policy, you will explore the causes and solutions of social problems in areas such as poverty and inequality both globally and locally. Engaging with debates about social justice, the everyday processes that shape our world and how to create a fairer society. You’ll gain a better understanding of the complex social structures and systems that surround us. For Welsh speakers and those seeking careers in public administration in Wales, we offer a version of this course taught entirely through the medium of Welsh, the BA Cymdeithaseg gyda Pholisi Cymdeithasol (L3LK). ‘Placement Year’ and 'International Experience Year’ options are available for this course. You will have the opportunity to fully consider these options when you have started your course at Bangor and can make an application for a transfer onto such a pathway at the appropriate time.
