Occupational therapists recognise the interaction between the person, their environment and the activities that they complete in everyday life. They promote independence by taking a ‘whole-person approach’ to both mental and physical health, thus enabling individuals to achieve their full potential. This BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy course enables you to develop the knowledge and skills to become a safe, competent and effective occupational therapy practitioner. Upon successful completion of the course you can apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council to practice as an occupational therapist. Our Foundation Year programme has been designed to prepare you for studying at undergraduate level and provide you with the required skills and knowledge to transition effectively into Level 4 study. Accredited by the Royal College of Occupational Therapists (RCOT) for the purpose of ensuring graduates are fit for the profession. Realistic simulated learning on campus to prepare you are your career ahead including use of a 'home environment' and learning opportunities with service users. The course has been designed in collaboration with local employers, service users, and carers to ensure graduates meet the expectations and requirements of the local community you will be working within. You will be taught at the friendly, self-contained Walsall Campus which is home to other health and social care students, giving you the opportunity to make friends and learn from your fellow students.

There are no qualification requirements for this course.

To receive an offer to study this course you are required to successfully attend and pass a Prepare for Foundation event. This is a one-day programme which is designed to introduce you to studying a health professional course, answer your questions, meet staff and fellow students. You will take part in a variety of subject related activities to help you prepare for your course as well as undertaking your interview during the day. This event will be your opportunity to showcase your keen interest or recent experience in the subject. You will need to hold a level 2 qualification in English and Maths. We understand that not everyone is able to achieve GCSE Maths and English for a variety of reasons. Our equivalency assessments provide an opportunity for you to further your English and/or Maths skills ready for your studies, as well as being able to meet part of the entry requirements for this course. Our equivalency courses are free of charge but must be completed before your course starts.

If you are a UK student enrolling on a full-time Foundation Degree or a Bachelor degree programme at the University of Wolverhampton in 2023/4, your fee for this academic year will be £9,250. This is a yearly fee, and will increase with inflation in subsequent years (in line with the government’s fee requirements). If you are an English student studying your first higher education qualification, you can apply for a tuition fee loan from the Student Loans Company.
