Course summary
As ships need professional seafarers, so the shore-based element of the maritime industry needs graduates with a good understanding of the shipping industry – and the relevant business skills. A dedicated one-year ‘top-up’ course for qualified seafarers, this specialist degree offers the key industry practice, management, and business skills you need to develop a shore-side career. Building on your existing qualifications and industry knowledge, you will explore the legal and management landscape in the maritime industry, which will build on and complement existing knowledge of the shipping industry. Taught by staff with a wide range of experience and knowledge within the industry and academia, the course will help you make the transition from ship to shore – supporting your development and filling any potential gaps in your knowledge base. And with a strong focus on learning through application within the real world, you will have plenty of opportunities to put theory into practice. And you will be part of a diverse and international student body, exposing you a huge range of cultural attitudes and approaches to business – and helping you build an essential network of global contacts. Our maritime conference delivers even more opportunities for professional connection, bringing Solent alumni and senior professionals from the industry on campus to share their career experiences, develop your employability, and more. Solent is located close to the port of Southampton which is the top export port in the UK. What does this course lead to?
