Course summary
Develop your understanding of the key concepts in applied linguistics and build academic and professional skills perfect for a range of language-related careers, including TESOL. Our MA in Applied Linguistics is designed to engage students in a wide range of topics and perspectives relevant to the field of linguistics. We explore areas relevant to professional translation, the IT industry, education and language policy, language teaching, and publishing, all of which build your professional skills alongside theoretical understanding. This course gives you the chance to gain advanced knowledge of different approaches to contemporary linguistic issues and a greater understanding of the mechanisms underlying all human language. With the dissertation, you will carry out a sustained piece of independent research on a relevant topic of your choice. By choosing a TESOL-related research topic, you would be eligible to be awarded the MA Applied Linguistics (TESOL). What you should know about this course

Assessment method
On this course, students are assessed by a variety of assessment methods, including essays, presentations, examinations, problem sets, research posters and a dissertation.
How to apply
International applicants
If you were educated in a language other than English and/or in a country where English speakers are in a minority, you should have a minimum IELTS score of 7 or equivalent. If you require a Tier 4 (General) student visa to study in the UK, your score must be from a UK Visas and Immigration approved IELTS test. Applicants whose IELTS scores fall below the required levels may be eligible for a conditional offer dependent on successfully completing a Pre-sessional English course (also available at the University of Greenwich).
Entry requirements
You should have a good honours degree (2.2 or above) or an equivalent qualification (both level and grade) from a recognised non-UK university in a relevant humanities or social sciences subject.
