Course summary

We are seeking accreditation for this course to be a HTQ. The visual rehabilitation worker assesses individual need and formulates, delivers and evaluates professional person-centred rehabilitation training to visually impaired people to develop and enhance the skills and confidence they need to maximise their independence. These rehabilitation workers are an advocate for visually impaired people, the sight loss sector and their employing organisation to support, design and influence the development of services and promote accessibility, equality, social integration and societal contribution of people with a visual impairment. On successful completion of this course graduates will be eligible to register with the Rehabilitation Workers Professional Network (RWPN) and become a member of the primary care team with local authorities and sensory services teams. This will mean they can work within the statutory, voluntary and private social care sector. The course is delivered so that teaching weeks are interspersed with work-based learning throughout each academic year using a blended approach to learning. Work-based learning – the course provides you with work-based experience in order to practice as a visual rehabilitation worker at the point of qualification. In each academic year the course includes both theoretical and practical components in practical and simulated environments ensuring you qualify with the competence and confidence to work effectively in practice. Expertise: The course is designed and delivered in partnership with local employers and service users and offers a competency–based curriculum based upon the NHS Constitution and its inherent values. Our external partners and practice experts regularly contribute to the course delivery and its support, providing additional specialist knowledge and experience.
