Course summary
This unique course aims to produce informed and skilled practitioners with the knowledge and skills to enter the healthcare arena with confidence. Complementary healthcare encompasses a wide range of practices including reflexology, aromatherapy and therapeutic massage. The course has been developed to cover the many different aspects of healthcare in such a way that practical skills are balanced with comprehensive training in the underpinning knowledge relating to the therapy being studied. WHAT WILL YOU STUDY? The course runs over two days a week and includes a weekly clinic to practice your skills in a clinical setting at the College salons. You will focus on three main therapies: body massage, reflexology and aromatherapy. You will also study a variety of subjects to support your work as a complementary therapist including nutrition, business, and professional practice. In the second year there is a 50-hour work placement based in a healthcare setting. You will develop a portfolio of reflective practice over the two years of the course. WHAT CAN YOU DO AFTER THIS COURSE? The course will equip you with a range of experiences, qualifications and practical skills sought by employers or required for successful self-employment. Complementary therapists work in a variety of environments including hospitals, hospices, health and in the community services for people with additional needs.
