Course summary

BA (Hons) Games Design (with Integrated International Foundation Year and Professional Practice Year) is a five year degree programme, specifically designed to provide international students with the English language and creative skills before they embark on year one of a degree. Your fourth academic year would then include a year in industry placement. The games industry is the fastest growing entertainment sector since the start of the 21st Century - global revenue is almost twice that of the film industry, with interactive digital experiences, from consoles and virtual reality (VR) to Smart TVs and mobile phones embedded in our everyday lives. On our BA (Hons) Games Design degree course at UCA Farnham, we’ll give you the skills to thrive in this exciting area of the creative industries. You'll learn user-centred design across a multitude of media, from board and card games to pervasive mobile experiences and digital games. And you'll learn production methodologies and work in teams to develop many portfolio pieces as the course progresses. You’ll develop prototypes, learn about the business of games development and undertake trips to major industry events and expositions. Throughout your time at UCA Farnham you can realise your full potential using our state-of-the-art facilities, with high-end PCs with Alienware towers, 4k dual screen monitors and Wacom Cintiq graphics tablets, all dedicated to games design, with software including Unity and Unreal games engines. In addition, there are sound production and Foley studios, pro tools software and a specialist library to utilise. Related courses

We require evidence of your English language ability to meet the requirements for your course. If you're a Home student and studied in the UK, we require GCSE English at a minimum grade C/4 (or Functional Skills English/Key Skills Communication Level 2). If you’re an EU student and studied a European qualification, we may accept the English Language score from your main qualification - please review your country from the list on our website to see whether we will accept it: https://www.uca.ac.uk/international-study/equivalent-qualifications/ If your qualification is not on this list, we accept the following English language qualifications: IELTS (overall score 6.0), TOEFL ibt (overall score 88), PEARSON PTE Academic (overall 55), Cambridge Proficiency Exam (overall score 169), Cambridge Advanced Exam (overall score 169). If you need a Tier 4 student visa to study in the UK, you will need to take an IELTS test, and achieve an overall score of 6.0 and a minimum score of 5.5 for each element (Listening, Reading, Speaking, Writing).
