Course summary

The BSc (Hons) Agricultural Management Top-up aims to provide students with a learning environment which builds on the platform of the UCS Agricultural Management Foundation Degree. Alternatively, students could have studied a similar Foundation Degree elsewhere. Whether you are focused on farm management or an associated industry, this course aims to supply graduates with the opportunity to develop systematic understanding and detailed knowledge of the key concepts, contexts and technologies shaping the developments in the agrifood sector. Industry links form a critical part of our course with regular visits, guest speakers and workshops from sector leaders. The course covers technical and managerial aspects of modern agriculture. Areas of study may include: • Business Analysis and Development • Agricultural Business Management • Strategic and Human Resource Management • Food Chain Management • Research Project. Our Farm now attracts national and international research projects and is one of the largest Agricultural centres for FE in the UK. We deliver a full range of agri-food topics which give you a thorough grounding at this higher level. If you are planning a future career as a farm secretary or administrator, membership of IAgSa will give you both the confidence and qualification you need. Progression Opportunities Successful completion of the Degree will provide you with the opportunity to progress to employment or further study in an agriculture/food related subject. This course will prepare you well for employment in the industry in positions such as a farm manager, rural surveyor, unit manager, farm contractor, senior herdsman or working within the management team of associated food industries.

Assessment method

Modules are assessed through a combination of coursework and formal examination. Coursework could include written / practical reports; in-class tests; case studies; essays; oral presentations; posters and a dissertation which allows independent research in a topic of interest, developed with staff on the programme.

Qualified teacher status (QTS)

To work as a teacher at a state school in England or Wales, you will need to achieve qualified teacher status (QTS). This is offered on this course for the following level:
