This British Psychological Society (BPS) accredited course is your first exciting step towards becoming a counselling psychologist, helping people deal with issues like bereavement, domestic violence, sexual abuse, traumas and relationship difficulties. Psychology, Counselling & Coaching offers a unique approach, blending knowledge and practice from counselling and coaching psychology. You study classic and contemporary theories of counselling and psychotherapy - including psychodynamic, person-centred and cognitive behavioural approaches - to gain a thorough understanding of the core areas. Alongside this, you learn how to apply your knowledge to everyday, real-life situations, taking different perspectives on psychological issues and problems. The course gives you the skills you need to move on to professional postgraduate training in a wide range of inspiring and rewarding careers across the different fields of counselling and psychology. Professional Practice Year This course has the option to be taken over four years which includes a year placement in industry. Undertaking a year in industry has many benefits; you gain practical experience and build your CV. It's also a great opportunity to sample a profession and network with potential future employers. Assessment method
Throughout your degree you will encounter a wide variety of assessment types which are collectively designed to suit the diversity of individual learning styles and preferences. Whilst you will be expected to sit some examinations, the overall assessment diet strongly favours different forms of coursework. This includes: presentations, reports, essays, computer-based assessments, portfolios, reflective journals, and more. You will receive helpful feedback on each assignment which will help you to develop your own academic and transferable skills, and inform the completion of your future assessments.
