Course summary

Musical Theatre as a genre, whilst being the most challenging, is also one of the biggest employers of performers within the Entertainment Industry. Most auditions/ jobs that surface often require performers who are able to deliver in more than one performance discipline. This course is designed to meet this demand with a full first year of intense “triple threat” training and a ground breaking second year that focuses on professional industry work based performance. On this course you will: • Enjoy Drama School style ethos, led by industry professionals, with Triple Threat Training in Acting, Song and Dance • Take part in various Musical Productions • Work on Final Year Industry Based Showcase Musical Productions in the London Fringe • Learn Networking, Self Marketing and Self Tax skills, building the essential tools of the Self Employed “Jobbing Actor” • Enjoy training that has been designed by theatre practitioners, for future theatre practitioners **What will I learn? Year One** The first year of the course will focus on pulling apart and redeveloping the acquired skills of the performer from previous training, whether this be from A Level, UAL/ BTEC Extended Diploma or Professional/Amateur Theatrical experience. The course is practical in the main, developing and nurturing all three disciplines of performance; Acting, Song and Dance. The course will be led by industry experienced lecturers, however, to provide a broader and more rewarding learning experience, workshops could be held by external practitioners within the field, utilising industry contacts of current Performing Arts Lecturers. First Year Topics / Modules include (but not limited to) • Acting Studies (Shakespeare / Classical, Contemporary Theatre, Film and Television) • Vocal Studies (Musical Theatre Repertoire, Vocal Technique, Acting Through Song) • Dance & Movement Studies (Jazz, Ballet & Tap styles, Choreographic work) • The Performing Arts Industry • Professional Development Year Two The second year will bring together the skills acquired in year one and will be applied to a performance heavy year, with students forming a Fringe Musical Theatre cast for several small scale productions. Students will apply their knowledge, not just in performance based disciplines but also in marketing their productions both to the public and media, as well as to agents and casting directors – promoting student led business and enterprise. Second Year Topics/Modules include (but not limited to) • Advanced Vocal Studies & Viva Voce • Dance for Musical Theatre • Advanced Acting Studies • Musical Theatre Practitioner Studies (Seminar Presentation Based) • Creative Research Project • Working in the Performing Arts Industry • Fringe Theatre Performance What can I do next? Students choosing to continue down an academic route may wish to progress to a final Honours year at Universities and Colleges across the UK or proceed directly into the industry as a Performer, Director or Choreographer. Entry Requirements: 48 UCAS Points From either BTEC, UAL or A levels in a related subject or any other recognised qualification As well as • GCSE English Language grade C/4 or above • GCSE Maths grade C/4 or above Applicants will also be invited for an audition which will be in the format of Group Dance, Solo Vocal and Acting followed by an interview. We welcome applications from mature students who may not meet the entry criteria but feel they have the experience from within the industry.
