Modules

Year 1 Students will build skills in architectural computer graphics, basic principles of structure and design and basic research skills. They will begin to think about professional enterprise and angles on problems of the built environment. We encourage students to start thinking about their contextual studies research. Year 2 Students will gain greater understanding of urban design, branded environments, rehabilitation projects, and the history of the city. This will allow them to enhance their practice and develop their approach to design work. We set briefs that encourage students to collaborate with other students and create work as part of a design team. Year 3 Students will bring their learning together in a final negotiated major project, where you will investigate and make architectural design decisions. They will carry out a negotiated project which takes the form of a live brief. We ask students to show their contextual studies research and thinking in a long form dissertation. Students will leave with a portfolio that shows their skills in areas in entry-level architecture.

Assessment method

Knowledge and understanding is assessed through texts, reports, individual and group presentations and through its application in design projects in a manner appropriate to each unit. Some units additionally require the submission of rationales, background research, development materials and evidence of reflection on process.
