Course summary

Special Educational Needs & Disability (SEND) Degree has been designed for those working or wishing to work with children from birth to secondary within an Special Educational Needs & Disability environment. The course is aimed at those who have a Level 3 qualification and/or sufficient employment experience who wish to develop their knowledge and understanding in the field of working with children.

Modules

The course consists of three terms each year. In Year 1 you will study Developing & Enhancing Academic Skills allowing you to develop the skills necessary to be successful at degree level. Alongside this module you will focus on the Curriculum which provides an in depth look at all aspects of the SEND Curriculum. In term 3 you will study Research Skills and Teaching and Professionalism. You will then undertake in Year 2 modules which include: Safeguarding , Inclusive Education, Social Pedagogy and Understanding and Managing Human Behaviour, Ethic and Methodology and Assessment in the Curriculum

Assessment method

Assessment includes essays, reports, individual and group presentations and case studies. There are now exams. These strategies are also designed to enable the development of key transferable skills in the workplace.

Additional fee information

Tuition fees are charged per annum. Students will have access to the Learning Resource Centre at our Owens Road campus and learning materials, books and journals will be available online and through our VLE (Moodle). Students are responsible for their own purchase of text books. Where travel to other sites is required, this will be payable by the student. Where students fail to return loaned items within the required time they will be responsible for the cost of any library fees and fines applicable. The cost of printing and photocopying undertaken by students to support their individual learning (beyond the allowance provided by the College) is payable by the student.
