87.9% of our research outputs in Engineering were assessed to be world leading or internationally excellent (REF 2021) About the course Sustainable Automotive Engineering at Sussex covers all aspects of modern automotive development, including engine, transmission and chassis design. This Master of Engineering (MEng) option lets you specialise your degree with a range of options and provides you with the educational requirements needed to become a Chartered Engineer. Our research feeds directly into our teaching, so you'll benefit from our work in dynamics, control and vehicle research. Research projects include automotive control system, automotive on-board diagnostics system, electric motor-driven camless valve train for IC engines, and autonomous vehicles. You’ll study in our Future Technologies Labs that incorporate computer suites and new automation/robotics facilities. There is also a dedicated manufacturing lab with state-of-the-art facilities such as CNC machines and 3-D printers. Our links to world-leading automotive companies, combined with the chance to work on a single-seat racing car in our Formula Student project, mean you are prepared to become a professional engineer in the automotive industry. We also have dedicated academic advisors to support you during you time at Sussex, as well as a team of student mentors and our welcoming student-run engineering societies. Sustainable Automotive Engineering (with an industrial placement year) MEng also gives you the chance to get real work experience in industry for a year, while still being supported by Sussex.
