Politics and Sociology at University of Sheffield - UCAS

Course summary

This course combines political analysis with policy studies, looking at the big societal challenges and issues in the world and addressing these with both a political and sociological lens. The politics part of the course introduces you to political theory and the big issues in contemporary politics. We'll teach you how to analyse political ideas, institutions and practices and introduce you to a variety of fascinating topics ranging from political economy, to human rights and gender. In sociology, you'll learn the fundamentals of sociological analysis. You'll study modern industrial societies: patterns of social change, social interaction and the sociology of everyday life. During your studies you will receive training in research techniques; you will apply these skills, along with knowledge you have gained throughout your taught modules, to carry out your own research project in your final year in a topic of your choice.
