Accounting and Management with Foundation at University of Reading - UCAS

Course summary

This BA Accounting and Management programme combines two key areas of business to prepare you for a successful future career. Henley Business School is ranked 19th in the UK for Accounting and Finance (The Times and The Sunday Times University Guide, 2020). Accountancy isn't just about being good at numbers. It’s about being able to analyse and interpret information, spot trends, identify issues and opportunities, and communicate complex ideas in a clear and concise manner. This multidisciplinary degree examines a range of issues from both an accounting and a business perspective, as well as exploring the interrelationships between the professions of accountancy and management. The accountancy element covers the core areas of financial reporting, management accounting and business finance. The management element will enable you to explore areas such as marketing, organisational behaviour, strategy, information systems, human resource management, entrepreneurship and ethics. After the first year, a range of optional management and finance modules will allow you to tailor your degree to your areas of interest. The second and final years are designed to build on the commercial and academic knowledge you have already acquired and certain modules on this degree are professionally accredited, meaning you can claim exemptions from professional accountancy exams in the future if you achieve the required grades. This course offers the opportunity to apply for credit for prior learning from three major accounting bodies: ICAEW, ACCA and CIMA. Placement All of our undergraduate degree programmes in accounting, business and management provide you with the opportunity to take a one-year industry placement between your second and final year of study, which we encourage students to do. Our careers team will provide you with expert advice and guidance – from helping choosing the right industry placement through to supporting you while working during your third year. To support you while applying we provide workshops covering all the main selection methods used by employers: competency interview training; CVs, cover letters and application forms; and drop-in clinics. A successful industry placement can also lead to a job offer with your placement company upon graduation. You will also have lots of opportunities to develop excellent professional contacts that will stand you in good stead for the future. Organisations we have worked with in the past include 3M, Aldi, BMW, British Airways, Cisco Systems, Deloitte, Disney, Dyson, Ford Motor Company, Fujitsu, GE, GlaxoSmithKline, Goldman Sachs, Grant Thornton, Hewlett Packard, HSBC, Hyundai, IBM, Intel, Jaguar Land Rover, Kimberley Clark, KPMG, Lilly, Lloyds TSB, L’Oréal, Marks & Spencer, Microsoft, Morgan Stanley, Nissan, PepsiCo, PwC, Symantec, Tesco, Unilever, Verizon and Waitrose. Careers A degree from Henley Business School is respected internationally and can provide a route into many areas, including accounting and professional services, banking, consultancy, finance, human resources, IT, investment banking, marketing, operations and, of course, general management.
