If you’re aiming for a career as strength and conditioning coach or sports therapist, or work in the Sports Science or fitness industry, this Foundation degree programme could be the start you have been looking for. If you decide you want to continue studying when you’ve completed this Foundation degree programme, you can progress on to our one-year BSc (Hons) Applied Sports Conditioning and Exercise (Level 6) to make it a full Honours degree. However, if, when you’ve completed the Foundation degree, you decide that you want to take up an employment opportunity, you can finish your studies and leave with an academic qualification which is well recognised across the sector. Our FdSc Applied Sports Conditioning and Exercise provides you with an ideal opportunity to develop the knowledge you need to become a sports and fitness practitioner, underpinning your practical skills with theoretical understanding. You will learn about the scientific basis for sports training, including an understanding of nutrition, human anatomy and psychology, and develop a flexible approach so that you can use appropriate skills in a variety of familiar and unfamiliar contexts. You’ll develop a reflective approach that enables creative problem-solving and innovation in your applied practice. You will gain a detailed understanding of principles and practices related to sports conditioning, training and exercise, and how these can be applied. You’ll learn to analyse the effectiveness of approaches to sports conditioning, training, the prevention of injury, rehabilitation, and how to adapt training principles appropriately. You will develop a range of transferrable skills, enhancing your employability across the sports conditioning, training, health and wellbeing sectors. Your confidence will grow as you progress through the course and build your skills and understanding. There are no exams, but you will be assessed in a variety of ways, including presentations, portfolios, practical exams, debate, poster presentations, essays, reflective logs and other written formats, which make the course accessible to a range of learning styles. Vocational and industry experience are integrated into the programme, with work placements and experiential learning opportunities. You will be based at our new University Centre on the WISE campus in Bristol, which has superb, professional standard sports facilities, including three standard football pitches, two 4G outdoor pitches, an artificial indoor 40 x 60 3G2 training surface, twelve 5-a-side pitches, a 40-station gym, weights room, Sports.
