Course summary

Why study Psychology? What makes people behave in certain ways? What are the mental and physical processes that underlie our actions? How do we perceive and understand things? What role does the unconscious mind play in our day-to-day lives? This undergraduate Psychology BSc(Hons) degree provides valuable insight into the nature of human behaviour and the opportunity to gain skills that can be applied to many situations, careers and further study. Perception, cognition, emotions, motivation, personality and interpersonal relationships, this course gives you the flexibility to explore a wide range of topics to do with mental processes and social behaviours. You’ll look at current and sometimes controversial issues by examining case studies. How will you learn?

  • Taking a hands-on approach, you'll be encouraged to think and apply your knowledge, looking at how psychological theories actually apply in the real world.
  • All our lecturers are focused on supporting you, and we have a dedicated Transition and Progression Tutor, who will help you adapt to studying Psychology at degree level.
  • Some of our final year optional modules are partly taught by professional clinical and forensic psychologists, giving you the opportunity to learn directly from those in professional practise.
  • Many of our lecturers are members of our Centre for Cognition and Neuroscience, and produce world-leading research in this field, ensuring you will be taught by some people at the cutting-edge of their discipline.
  • We’ll help you broaden your skills and experiences to make you attractive to potential employers in your chosen career. You’ll have the opportunity to build your communication skills, assertiveness, ability to work in teams and presentation techniques, all of which are useful in many careers and professions.
