Course summary
Prepare yourself for a career in banking, management, consulting, and a vast array of other business fields with a degree that combines the strengths of both our Accounting and Finance and Mathematics and Statistics departments. Take advantage of the natural overlap between the worlds of finance and mathematics, taking your maths to the highest level while learning how to apply highly-valued big data and quantitative modelling skills in the worlds of accounting and finance. Learning from top academics whose global perspectives shape policy and research at the leading-edge of their fields, and practitioners bringing their experiences of running businesses and working in the worlds of accounting and finance, this degree is the perfect balance of theory and practice. Our graduates’ analytical ability, logical thinking and project management skills are highly prized. Whether you want to become a banker, an accountant or a quantitative mathematician, your studies equip you with the advanced mathematical and statistical techniques needed in the City of London and beyond. You will study investor decision-making, reporting and market analysis, acquire the skills to build a strong investment portfolio and calculate financial risk. We will teach you the foundations of economics, accounting and finance. You will use real-world data to develop your financial reporting skills, and learn key mathematical elements, such as calculus, probability and statistics. The second year builds on your mathematical knowledge, and introduces you to statistical computer programming. You will study auditing, financial accounting, management accounting and finance. Third-year students develop their understanding of advanced accounting methods, financial reporting standards and statistics, and may choose to study options including investments, taxation and corporate finance.
