Course summary

Studying BSc Business Management with Finance at the University of Salford gives you an understanding of the challenges faced by governments and organisations worldwide, as well as the skills and knowledge to work in a high-level business or managerial career. This industry-led course combines theory with professional experience, through live projects and professional placements. The Foundation Year of the four-year programme aims to provide understanding of the key subjects in business to meet the prerequisites for study on the associated degree programme. The key areas of study will be effective communication and study skills combined with key subjects in business. You will be introduced to basic theories and concepts within the disciplines to provide a basic knowledge in all related subject areas. The programme will introduce you to essential areas of business necessary for progression onto business, accounting or law degrees. You will learn how to apply business concepts to real life organisations and develop communication, IT and study skills. Following completion of the Foundation Year, you will progress on to year one of your selected degree for the remainder three years of your course (four years if you are choosing to do the professional placement year). With Professional Development options, exemptions from professional examinations such as ACCA, and Sage training embedded in your learning, graduating with a degree in Business Management with Finance means graduating with the necessary skills to take the first steps in your career. Year 2: Professional Development, Analysis for Finance, Project Management, Financial Markets and Institutions, International Finance, Live Project: Finance. Year 3: Business Ethics and Sustainability, Leadership and Management in Finance, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Strategic Financial Management, Business Finance, Innovation in Financial Services OR Dissertation.

Assessment method

We use different forms of assessment in different modules and wherever possible these will reflect the types of work you will do in the ‘real world’ for example, report writing, presentations and business pitches. Exams will only be used when it is a requirement for professional accreditation. Throughout your studies, the work you produce will help to build your personal portfolio of professional evidence that you will be able to use in job applications and interviews.
