Course summary

Students on our Engineering Professional courses will benefit from modules created by industry specialists to align with the needs of eployers in the engineering sectors. In the first year, all students will study four units which are Engineering and Mathematics, Engineering Science, Electrical Systems and Fault Finding, Quality and Process Improvement. In the second year, students will focus on their chosen subject pathway.Topics in year two include: Engineering Design; CAD for Maintenance Engineers; Electrical and Electronic Principles; Managing a Professional Engineering Project. You will study this course at our brand new Swindon and Wiltshire Institute of Technology based at our North Star Campus in Swindon. An Institute of Technology (IoT) is a collaboration between Further Education (FE) providers, universities and employers.The IoT will be a high quality employer-led training facility delivering high level technical and digital skills training for young people and to those already in employment. The IoT will specialise in delivering higher technical education providing students with a clear route to technical employment, and employers with a skilled workforce. An Institute of Technology (IoT) is a collaboration between Further Education (FE) providers, universities and employers.

Modules

Units delivered over two years of part-time study for this qualification are; In the first year, all students will study four units which are Engineering and Mathematics, Engineering Science, Electrical Systems and Fault Finding, Quality and Process Improvement. In the second year, students will focus on their chosen subject pathway. Assessment method

You will be provided with details of the assignment requirements for each unit. Students will be encouraged to engage with personal and professional development, gaining formative feedback on progress towards unit outcomes, and developing knowledge and competence in the discipline. Summative assessment is mainly through coursework. Students will evidence their progress through written academic essays and reports, or practical activities, which will vary according to each individual unit assessment requirements. Each unit will carry more than one assessment task in order to meet the learning outcomes and criteria for the unit as a whole. There are no summative written exams for this course., however in some units, your knowledge may be formatively assessed through in-class tests.
