You will explore fashion media production, fashion marketing and visual communication, including digital imaging and new media. You will learn the skills and techniques needed to effectively communicate and market fashion brands in this dynamic, fast-moving and exciting sector. You will have the freedom to explore existing innovative practices, examine the current definitions of fashion promotion and communication, and explore the future direction of this exciting landscape. Delivered through a combination of practice and theory-based learning, you will develop your own unique voice across several channels, including film, magazines, fashion photography, website design, journalism, brand communication and social media. Competitions and live briefs will provide real work scenarios to help you develop and integrate your skillset, whilst building key industry contacts.
Modules
Year 1: Students will build knowledge and awareness of brand principles and the basics of how to bring together a fashion campaign. Alongside this, they will learn key skills in photography, film, graphics, illustration and social media. We encourage students to start thinking about their contextual studies research throughout this year. Year 2: Students will gain a greater understanding of multi-platform campaign building. At the same time, they will develop skills in building websites and writing market reports. Our students go live at this stage, taking on a three-month industry internship. Year 3: Students will be assessed on four components in their final year and we ask that they create a final major project from inception to realisation. They will also work on a range of national and international competitions to showcase their skills and build a well-rounded professional portfolio. We ask that they show their contextual studies research in a long form dissertation.
Assessment method
Students will be continually assessed through preparation of written and project work. Assessment in the final year is through dissertation, major project, and portfolio.
