The HNC/HND in Public Services (Criminology and Criminal Justice) will help you develop the knowledge, practical skills and experience needed for a professional career in crime and criminal justice. You will investigate law, criminology and criminal behaviour and topical issues within the industry, while developing a range of vital skills. This course is ideal for anyone wishing to pursue or develop their knowledge and understanding across a range of criminological topics. Combining a range of vocational and employability-based skills, you will study key topic areas including Justice, Punishment and Rehabilitation, Behavioural Psychology, Criminological Theories, Care in Custody and Law. This course aims to develop your knowledge of the key underpinning of theory within the criminology and criminal justice setting whilst developing the practical skills and experience needed for a professional career in criminal analytics, probation services, prison officers and major crime team investigators. The course is delivered via a range of practical, theoretical and discussion-based sessions. You will interact with experienced and highly skilled practitioners who will develop your knowledge and encourage you to engage with the relationship between theory and practice within criminology and criminal justice. A variety of assessment methods are utilised to develop a range of skills. eg. portfolios and presentations. Following this 2 year course you could progress on to a variety of Criminological Honours Degree programmes, depending on overall and specific unit grades. Excellent employment opportunites exist in criminology and criminal justice industries.
