Course summary

Our Professional Practice in Education, MEd programme is ideal for educational practitioners. Currently employed in either Higher or Further Education, the Skills Sector and broader educational settings. Due to the practice-based nature of the MEd, you must be a practising teacher/educator to undertake modules on this programme. You'll also have the option to exit with a PGDip after two years or one year if you have sufficient accreditation to prior learning (APL) credits. Our aim is to support your professional development as a reflective researcher, within a collaborative research community. This programme is all about critically engaging with your professional practice. The course is designed as a progression pathway for teachers, trainers and tutors within various sectors of education. Who wish to continue study at postgraduate level. And would like the opportunity to achieve a Master’s in Education through a part-time route. It also acts as a progression route for our well-established teaching partnership. Which offers PGCE and Cert Ed awards in post-compulsory education, and for others working in the Further Education sector. It is also a progression route for the PGCert in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education.

Entry requirements

This Masters award is a taught award linked to continuing professional development with a focus on practitioner research. Participants on the in-house programme will normally be employed by the University of Central Lancashire or in an associated HEI or college of FE and will have demonstrated ability to cope with Master’s level study either through APEL or previous qualifications, eg PG Certificate. Access to the programme will be open to new participants with previous appropriate PG Diploma or PG Certificates from other institutions but degree and extent of APL/credits will be agreed on an individual case by case basis. Entry requirements onto the PG Diploma without a PG certificate will include for example:- First degree or equivalent professional qualification plus related work experience. Successful experience of level 3 final year study in last 5 years plus related work experience. Plus in both cases the recommendation of line manager. If you do not meet either of these requirements, you will still be welcome to apply on confirmation of ability to cope with Masters level study as a result of completing a diagnostic activity, presentation of a portfolio, or extended CV and interview. Good command of written and spoken English. Links with an educational institution for practitioner research and work based learning.
