Course summary

This BSc Adult Nursing [Pre-registration] degree aims to produce excellent nurses, who are fit for practice and able to meet the key needs of all patient groups. It offers an integrated academic and professional training environment, which is built to help you to gain crucial knowledge and skills to develop a career in contemporary nursing practice. During the initial stages of the course you will be given more direction and assistance to help you progress, from being a dependent learner, towards becoming an autonomous, reflective and critical individual as your knowledge develops. As the course progresses, there is an expectation you will evolve into becoming independent and self-directed, taking increasing responsibility for your own learning and professional development. This is a three-year, full-time degree consisting of field of practice, generic and practice learning modules. It starts at Level 4 and continues through to Level 6. Practice Learning Experiences The programme consists of six practice learning experiences, ensuring that you maximise your learning opportunities. Practice learning will help with the acquisition of skills required to achieve competence within the adult nursing field of practice. We also ensure there is equal weighting for learning in practice and academic theory in accordance with the NMC guidelines. There are six mandatory practice learning modules, two small ones in year one, two medium ones in year two and two large ones one in year three, equating to 50% of the credit each year.

Year 1 - Foundations of Integrated Health Science (30 credits); Practice Learning A (30 credits); Practice Learning B (30 credits); Professional Integrated Nursing Care Practice (15 credits); Promoting Health and Preventing Ill Health (15 credits) Year 2 - Developing Integrated Health Sciences (30 credits); Integrated Evidence Based Professional Nursing Practice (30 credits); Practice Learning C (30 credits); Practice Learning D (30 credits) Year 3 - Management and Leadership in Practice (60 credits); Practice Learning E (30 credits); Practice Learning F (30 credits)

Assessment method

The programme features a variety of assessments including coursework, examinations, practical learning assessments and clinical simulations. Coursework is in the form of essays, reports or case studies, while group or individual presentations may be required to assess other competencies. Examinations will be both with written and electronic including assessment techniques which may include elements or multiple-choice questions and maybe unseen or part-seen, where assessment material is released in advance.

Qualification requirements

We will consider applicants who possess: - Nursing Associate Qualification; OR, - Health Care Assistant Practitioner; OR, - A Higher Education Certificate in Health and Social Care; AND, Digital literacy; OR, - A recognised and equivalent vocational, industry or professional qualification; OR, - A recognised and equivalent qualification (examinations and experience) and apply following the Accredited Prior Learning procedure (APL). The credits are various based on your previous qualification. Your claim will be reviewed on an individual basis. Please contact us to discuss your application; OR, - Five GCSEs at Grade C or above which must include English, mathematics and a science. For reformed GCSEs we accept a minimum of Grade 4 in English language and mathematics Additional entry requirements Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check: All students will need to complete a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check upon acceptance of our offer of a place. Health check: all offers will be conditional upon a satisfactory Occupational Health clearance. References: evidence of good character is required from 2 appropriate sources. Please note that the cost of both the DBS and Occupational health check will be covered by BPP University.
