Course summary

HND in Healthcare Practice offers students the opportunity to progress successfully into a career within Health and Social Care. The Healthcare Practice, with a pathway of public health and health promotion, provides a stimulating programme of study, designed to engage and challenge learners. Those already working in the industry will gain knowledge and insight into the structure of healthcare provision, which will help to enhance their career progression. There is an element of placement required for the course, though this can be your existing workplace, if relevant to the course. Units studied are as follows: Year 1 (Level 4)

  • Demonstrating Professional Principles and Values in Health and Social Care Practice.
  • Supporting the Individual Journey through Integrated Health and Social Care.

  • Sociological and Psychological Perspectives on Health.
Year 2 (Level 5)
  • Innovation and Improvement through Action Research.
  • Reflective Approaches in Implementing Person-centered Practice.
  • Health Psychology.
  • Social Policy in Public Health.
  • Holistic Approaches to Health Promotion.
  • Supporting Team and Partnership Working Across Health and Care Services.
  • Complementary Therapies in Healthcare Practice.
Students can potentially progress from the HND onto Level 6 courses for BA/BSc(hons) in courses such as: Health and Social Care, Public Health, Health Promotion and Management Studies. Careers pathways include but are not limited to: Health educator, Public Health Practitioner, Wellbeing Co-Ordinator, Voluntary Sector Field Worker, Research Assistant.

Assessment method

Assessment is through coursework and will include essays, reports and presentations to allow for diverse learning preferences.
