Course summary

Communications technology is a crucial part of the world economy, with advances in electronics and communications making an immeasurable impact on the modern world. This course – our Electronic Communication Engineering BEng (Hons) – is designed to help you start a fulfilling career in the industry and covers everything from the Internet of Things to AM and FM detectors. Why study Electronic and Communication Engineering BEng (Hons) at Huddersfield? Our course is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), which means that, on completion, you will satisfy the academic requirements for Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status. Once you've spent the required time in industry, it could then lead to CEng status – your professional engineering qualification. In our electronic and electrical engineering subject area, our degree programmes share the same first year of study, so you can leave your options open until the start of your second year. During year one and two, you'll take part in our EnABLE (Engineering in an Activity Based Learning Environment) initiative. This sees you work in small teams to solve real engineering problems, giving you the confidence to apply for a placement in your third year, or your first graduate role post-university. In the fourth year, you will work on a selected individual research/design project; it’s possible to align this with one of the Master's team projects. A vibrant town, Huddersfield is a friendly and diverse place from which to study, too, offering lots to do between lectures.
